~ Class Descriptions ~

Mommy's Morning Out Performing Arts Preschool:

Ages 3-5 years: We are so excited to offer this new program to Studio Élan. Feel comfortable bringing your child to a creative, intellectual, nurturing environment - then go enjoy some "Mommy Time!" Our program emphasizes art,  music, and dance! We will also work on letters, numbers, colors, shapes, counting, and fine motor skills. Children will enjoy stories, circle time, music, snack time, and on top of that get a full 45 minutes of dance and movement. Space is limited so please pre- register.

    Classical Ballet:

Creative Ballet (3 and 4 years): A welcome to the world of dance. Children will jump, twirl, leap, soar and much more! Dancers will be stretching and strengthening their muscles and imaginations. They start the classical ballet training here, beginning to learn terms and positions - with lots of play.

Pre-Ballet I(4+ years): In addition to playful dancing, some basic ballet terms and concepts- such as turn out and classical positions are introduced. Barre work is also introduced.

Pre-Ballet II(5+ years): As the dancers progress we have less "Princess Play" and work on having a more traditional Ballet class - yet still have fun!!!! Barre work, center work, and progressions are all part of class. Our goal is to introduce the foundation and structure of a "real" Ballet class.....but also to keep them loving the dance so they continue on in their training.

Ballet IA & IIA (7/8 years): At this point the dancers are ready for a more traditional, structured ballet class, with barre work and center work. Children will learn turns, big jumps, and combination steps, along with a sense of musicality and rhythm. The emphasis will be on proper technique, with each child progressing at his or her own pace. Dress Code and Hair are strongly enforced at this level.

Ballet IIB (8+ years): Dancers continue their classical ballet journey. Traditional class work as above. This class is offered 2 days a week - for all those students wishing for pointe work someday.

Ballet for Gymnasts (7-12 years): Offered at Riverside Gymnastics Facility. This is a traditional ballet class, moving at a brisker pace due to the experience of the students. A portion of the focus will be on ballet moves which fall within a gymnastics framework, yet that is not the limit of the class. Dancers will learn classical ballet terminology, barre work, center work, and combinations. As always, emphasis will be on proper technique, and individual progress.

Pre-Pointe: Pre-Pointe will develop foot and ankle strength and flexibility, as well as the core strength needed to progress to dancing on Pointe.

Pointe: Progression to dancing on Pointe is a big "leap" in a ballet dancers education. These students will be learning proper technique, strength,  and flexibility with barre work. Moving into center work only when the student is ready. These students have a few more expectations to get to this level - such as taking classes at least 2 times a week, and having experience in the ballet class. This class is determined on dancers experience, ability and teacher approval.

Creative Dance (2 1/2 yrs): A tap, tumble, and movement class. This is a great class to start your little one in. Children will begin to learn how their body moves, bends, and stretches. Children will work on basic tumbling, tap, and movement skills, as well as learning how to move and express themselves through music.

Tap/Jazz/Tumble (3-5 yrs): Young children will begin stretching, rolling, balancing, and jumping, then put on their taps and kick their heels up - so to speak:) Students will learn basic tap steps, technique, and begin learning musicality and rhythms. Fundamental tumbling skills are taught.

Tap/Jazz/Tumble (6-8 yrs): In this class dancers are offered a combination of Jazz, Tap, and Tumbling, all with a ballet foundation.  By no means does the child have to have previous experience. All children will learn and progress at an individual pace. Children will build on basic skills of tap, musicality, and rhythms, along with an introduction to classical Jazz with progressions across the floor, stretching, flexibility, and short combinations.

Tap/Jazz II (ages 7 and up): This class is designed for the more experienced dancer ages 7 yrs and up or by instructor approval. We will move at a brisk pace and learn classic tap and classical jazz fundamentals, as well as fun combinations and across the floor progressions.

Tap II (Ages 9 and up):  Each student will be challenged at their own pace as they learn basic skills of tap, musicality, and rhythms. Tap II  - instructor approval.

Hip Hop Jazz I, II, III (Ages 6 and up): These classes are fun and upbeat for ages 6 and up. Students will be learning hip hop/jazz funk skills with a strong jazz foundation, learning classical, modern, as well as lyrical forms. Dancers will learn progressions, combinations and funky, yet appropriate dances for their age.

Beg/Int Adult/Teen Jazz (Ages 15 and up): This class is back by popular demand:) This class is a jazz focused class, students will be learning all forms a jazz including jazz funk, classic, modern and lyrical. For all those teens that wished they would have started dance earlier in life and for those that have come up through the ranks - we have a class for you! Adults are always welcome!!!

Studio Elan Jr. Dance Company (audition only): This class is for our newly developed dance company! We are very excited about the opportunities that these dancers will share in. Focusing on all Jazz forms and Ballet, we might sneak in some hip hop too:) Ample performance opportunity as well as a future in competition. 9+yrs and at least 1 year dance experience required.

Adult Dance; Tap & Jazz- Ages 21 and up:
